Marie Leszczinska, Queen of France (1703-1768)’ 1747 by Charles-André van Loo Marie Leszczyńska was a Polish princess who married Louis XV of France. She became the longest serving Queen consort of France. Queen Marie Leszczinska had been snubbed by the king’s frequent mistresses but Madame de Pompadour (next paintings) established a cordial relationship with her. Pompadour realized that showing respect for Marie eased Louis’ guilt and allowed him to have a strong relationship with his children. The Queen often said “If there must be a mistress, better her than any other.”
